Why Do Bubbles Form in Epoxy Resin?
Micro-bubbles in resin are the most common challenge faced by resin artists in India. High humidity during monsoon or cold weather in northern winters increases resin viscosity, trapping air when stirring.
💡 The Golden Rule: IRIKA 2:1 Art Resin is formulated with low surface tension and automatic bubble release. Within 15 minutes of pouring, over 95% of bubbles rise to the surface naturally.
Step 1: The Warm Water Bath Technique (Winter Essential)
Cold epoxy is viscous like honey. Before opening Part A, place the sealed bottle into a bowl of warm water (35°C–40°C) for 10 minutes. This lowers the viscosity to water-like flow, allowing trapped air to escape instantly.
Step 2: Slow, Deliberate Stirring
- Always stir slowly in one consistent direction for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Scrape the sides and flat bottom of your silicone beaker to ensure homogeneous chemical cross-linking.
- Avoid whipping or pumping the stirrer up and down, which injects unwanted air into the mixture.
Step 3: Torching vs. Heat Gun Technique
Pass a butane micro-torch lightly 6 inches above the surface in sweeping motions. The heat breaks surface tension, popping bubbles in a fraction of a second. Never hold the flame in one spot to avoid scorching the epoxy.
